Stay Smarter
The single most important tip about this hotel concerns its relationship with China Southern Airlines. If you are on a China Southern (CZ) flight layover-long, typically eight hours or more-then most probably your itinerary entitles you to a free transit hotel room. This is almost always the hotel they use. Check either the China Southern Airlines official website or at the airline counter upon arrival to see if your ticket qualifies- this is the ultimate travel hack, and quite possibly the best value.
Book your shuttle transfers right away. When you check in for your stay, the first thing you should do is book your shuttle bus back to the airport for your departure. They will schedule you for a specific time based on your flight, ensuring you get to the terminal on time without any stress. For pick-up, have the hotel's phone number saved (+86 20 8613 8868 is often listed) and call them as soon as you have your bags.
Eat here or eat at the airport. Easy and decent Chinese and Western buffet selections turn pricey at the on-site restaurants of the hotel. Pro move for those keeping an eye on spending simply walk back over to the Terminal 1 food court. Much wider selection, all price points, from cheap noodles and dumplings to recognizable fast food. And open late.
Use the hotel for its intended purpose: rest. The rooms are surprisingly spacious, comfortable, and, most importantly, quiet. Do not book this hotel as a base for exploring Guangzhou; it is a 45-60 minute metro ride to the city center, which is highly impractical for sightseeing. This hotel is a "transit tool." Embrace the opportunity to have a long, hot shower, sleep in a comfortable bed, and enjoy the early-start breakfast buffet (which begins around 5:00 AM) to be completely refreshed and relaxed for your next flight.
